Microfibre & colour separation - Proven technology, often implemented incorrectly

Microfibre has been the standard in professional cleaning for years. Nevertheless, we see the same mistakes in practice time and time again: incorrect use, no clean separation of the cloths - and therefore unnecessary spread of germs.

Time for a proper categorisation.

Why microfibre at all?

Microfibre cloths consist of extremely fine fibres (usually polyester/polyamide), which:

  • Pick up dirt mechanically instead of spreading it
  • Dissolve grease without aggressive chemicals
  • Efficiently bind liquid
  • Clean surfaces gently

When used correctly, microfibre significantly reduces the use of chemicals. This makes economic and ecological sense.

But microfibre is not a magic cloth. The effect depends on technique and systematics.

Colour separation - not a detail, but a hygiene standard

The colour coding serves to clearly separate areas of use. It prevents cross-contamination - particularly important in offices, sanitary areas or medical facilities.

A tried and tested scheme:

  • Red → WC, urinal, direct ceramic sanitary ware
  • Yellow → Washbasin, tiles in the sanitary area
  • Blue → Office, surfaces, furniture
  • Green → Kitchen or general areas (depending on the system)

Important: The system only works if it is consistently adhered to. A blue cloth in the toilet area cancels out the entire logic.

Typical errors in practice

  1. Cloths are used across all areas
  2. No clear training for employees
  3. Improper washing (fabric softener destroys the fibre structure)
  4. Too wet application - microfibre works best when damp

The washing process in particular is often underestimated. Fabric softener sticks the fibres together - then the cloth just pushes the dirt in front of it.

Economic advantage through systematics

Clean colour separation means:

  • Fewer complaints
  • Greater hygiene safety
  • Consistent cleaning quality
  • Longer service life of textiles

In short: structure saves money.

Conclusion

Microfibre and colour separation are not a trend. They are a professional standard - if they are implemented correctly.

The technology is well known. It's the discipline that makes the difference.
