Now all that's really missing is the tenancy handover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And just then, things suddenly become visible that were amazingly well camouflaged for years: limescale under the tap, grease on the extractor fan, dust on the door frame, or that one slat of the blinds that has apparently been waiting for attention since 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When handing over a flat, people therefore often look much more closely than during the normal weekly clean. But <strong>which areas are particularly important \u2013 and what should really be clean before the handover?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Generally, the required standard of cleaning depends on the tenancy agreement. Many property management companies also provide a cleaning checklist for the handover of the flat. For agreements with a so-called \u00abswept-clean\u00bb handover, different requirements may apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Kitchen: focus on grease and hidden areas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kitchen is one of the most labour-intensive areas during a final clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not enough just to wipe down the work surface and give the sink a quick once-over. Especially grease and burnt-on residues are quickly noticeable in an empty kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Special attention should be paid to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Oven and baking trays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hob<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extractor hood and filter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fridge and freezer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kitchen cupboards inside and out<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drawers and handles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sinks and taps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tops of cupboards and hard-to-reach corners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is particularly worth taking a close look at the cooker hood. Grease deposits like to hide where you rarely look in everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fridge and freezer should also be clean, empty and \u2013 if necessary \u2013 defrosted in good time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Bathroom and WC: Limescale is visible immediately<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the bathroom, limescale is usually the main culprit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taps, washbasin, toilet, bathtub and shower should be thoroughly cleaned and freed from visible limescale and soap residue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Particular attention deserves:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shower heads<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shower screens<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guide rails<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tiles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>accessible joints<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>toilet and cistern<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bath or shower tray<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Limescale is particularly noticeable on chrome, glass and dark surfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One area is often forgotten: <strong>under and behind fixtures as well as in the guide rails of a shower.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over time, an interesting mixture of limescale, soap residue and things we'd rather not dwell on collects there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Windows: It's not just the glass that counts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clean window panes are important \u2013 but a thorough final clean often involves more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Window frames, rebates and windowsills should also be checked and cleaned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Typical locations are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Window panes inside and outside, where safely accessible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>window frames<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>window rebates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Window handles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Windowsills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An astonishing amount of dust and dirt collects in the folds over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Important: Dangerous cleaning work cannot simply be demanded of tenants. Nobody should have to become a facade climber for the sake of a clean pane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Blinds and roller shutters: The underestimated time thief<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone who has ever thoroughly cleaned Venetian blinds knows why this point deserves its own section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dust, pollen and environmental grime settle on every single slat \u2013 front, back and on the edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And suddenly a flat no longer has \u00abfour blinds\u00bb, but rather feels like 320 individual small surfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether and to what extent blinds or roller shutters need to be cleaned should be checked based on the tenancy agreement or the handover inventory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If they are part of the final clean, enough time should be scheduled for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Floors: Clean \u2013 but please appropriate for the material<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the furniture is gone, your gaze automatically falls on the floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dust, stains and residue that previously vanished under the sofa, bed or wardrobe are now coming to light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, depending on the floor covering, different cleaning is necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parquet, for example, should be treated differently from ceramic tiles, vinyl or natural stone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, the following does not apply here: <strong>The stronger the agent, the cleaner the floor.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the worst-case scenario, the wrong cleaning product can cause more damage than the original dirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Don't forget doors, cupboards and radiators<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The large areas are usually not the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The details are forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, during a final clean, it is worth doing an inspection walk through the empty flat. Among other things, the following areas should be checked:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Doors and door frames<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Door handles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Light switch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skirting boards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Built-in wardrobes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tops of cupboards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Radiator<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>visible storage shelves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>quirks and all<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Especially dust on door frames or radiators is barely visible in everyday furnished life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an empty flat, on the other hand, it suddenly seems to possess its own spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Spider's webs: Small, delicate and easily overlooked<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spider's webs are among the typical details that are forgotten during a final clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are particularly common:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>in the ceiling corners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>along edges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>behind radiators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in the cellar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>at window frames<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in seldom-used ancillary rooms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A simple trick: darken the room slightly and shine a torch sideways along the ceiling and through the corners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lateral light makes fine spiderwebs much more visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the way, we've already written a dedicated post about this exact trick on Putzvogel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Balcony, basement and utility rooms<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When handing over an apartment, the inspection should not end at the front door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on the rental property, further areas may also be included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Balcony or terrace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cellar compartment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Screed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redoubt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Garage or parking space<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>letterbox<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which specific areas need to be cleaned depends on the contractual agreement. The Tenants' Association also points out that associated ancillary rooms should not be forgotten during a thorough handover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. What happens if something is still dirty when handed in?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even with careful cleaning, a spot can be missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a cleaning defect is found during the handover of the apartment, the usual procedure is to rectify it.
